Letter from the Senator

Dear Friends,

Senator Donna Nesselbush

Thank you for visiting my Rhode Island Senate campaign website!

I am honored to serve in the Rhode Island Senate, representing the great city of Pawtucket and the great Town of North Providence. Getting our state back on track towards a brighter tomorrow is my number one priority. Having the highest unemployment rate in the country is simply unacceptable, and Rhode Island must do better. The prospect of making ends meet is a challenging task for most families. That’s why stimulating our economy and creating a business climate conducive to job creation is fundamental and paramount.

At the State House, I’m working to restore the people’s faith and trust in government. Abolishing the master lever and restoring the Ethics Commission’s oversight of the General Assembly will go a long way in this regard.

Rhode Island faces tremendous challenges. We must look for innovative ways to do more with less, including shared purchasing power and regionalization to be able to fund our infrastructure, so that Rhode Island has safe and solid bridges and smooth, sound roads. I’m proud of the work so many of us did to bring the beautiful Pawtucket River Bridge to fruition.

I believe that every child deserves a quality public education. Future generations of Rhode Islanders are relying on the educational decisions we make today. A quality education helps to level the playing field between rich and poor. Education has always been the enzyme of opportunity and the best conduit to success. School choice is extremely important to parents and students alike, and we must motivate and inspire our students so they graduate with the skills necessary to compete in the 21st century economy.

Today, the “American Dream” is threatened, but I pledge a strong commitment to our core values and leadership so that the American dream can once again become a reality for all Rhode Islanders.

As a member of the Judiciary Committee, I’ll vote to ensure that the letter and spirit of our United States and Rhode Island Constitutions are protected, and I’ll dedicate myself to equality and justice.

From my seat on Government Oversight, I’m working towards transparency and responsibility, so that the public has a full and fair accounting of the 38 Studios debacle and so the people can once again trust their government.

As Vice-Chair of the Health and Human Services Committee and as a member of the Permanent Joint Committee on Health Care Oversight, I’m working to help our state implement the Affordable Care Act, providing access to health insurance to many who were previously uninsured, while championing quality, affordable health care for all. Women’s reproductive freedom continues to receive my constant vigilance.

Despite our challenges, I remain optimistic. Our best days are always ahead of us. Together, I’m confident that we can combine old-fashioned Rhode Island ingenuity with common-sense legislation to restore the Ocean State to pride and prosperity.

There’s a lot of work to be done, and I cannot do it without you, your support and your vote.

Thank you again for taking the time to visit my website, and please feel free to contact me should you have any questions or wish to discuss any matter.

Warm regards,
